“He (the questioner) says, he asks about: “Is there excuse for ignorance in matters of ‘Aqeedah?”
“With regards to matters of ‘Aqeedah, then there are issues which are clear and issues which are complex (hidden/khafiyyah). Clear issues and complex issues. There are some matters of ‘Aqeedah which no one knows except (only) a few from the people of knowledge. Not all scholars know (them).
Because when it comes to some of the Attributes (of Allah) (for example), then there might be someone who knows their proof and someone else who doesn’t. Not everyone knows the proofs and knows the Attributes and their proofs which indicate them. The people vary in this regard. Some scholars might know that this Attribute is to be affirmed for Allah due to such and such statement of the Messenger, may peace and blessings be upon him, while other than them do not know that, while other than them do not know that. Someone like this, meaning the one whom the proof hasn’t reached, is excused.
And as for the clear issues which don’t contain any ambiguity, then there is no excuse for ignorance. Such as the one who curses Allah and the one who curses the Messenger, may peace and blessings be upon him. Is it said that someone who curses Allah and curses the Messenger (may peace and blessings be upon him) is excused?! For which ignorance is he to be excused?! Cursing Allah?! And cursing the Messenger, may peace and blessings be upon him?!
